About NRHA Founded in 1940, the Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority (NRHA) provides low-income families in Norfolk, Virginia with safe and well-maintained housing. It also plans and administers large-scale residential redevelopment programs within Norfolk.

About the Position NRHA seeks qualified candidates for the position of Administrative Assistant for its Housing Operations division. This role performs standard secretarial and administrative support duties on behalf of an assigned public housing midrise, interacts with residents, calculates rents, and assures proper processing of tenants.

Key responsibilities of this position include:
Greeting office visitors

Responding to telephone calls, especially resident inquiries.

Meeting with new residents, preparing forms, and explaining standard midrise policies and procedures.

Calculating rent amounts, and recalculate rents when a resident has a change in income.

Entering resident and work order data into computer databases.

Processing vacating residents.

Creating, maintaining, and updating resident files.

Monitoring work to assure that the midrise complies with federal, state, and local housing regulations.

Maintaining a professional image and serve as a representative of NRHA.

The ideal candidate for this job will have:
Vocational/Technical School education in Secretarial Science or a related field.

Three to five years of administrative/secretarial/clerical support experience.

Knowledge of public housing policies, programs, procedures, and practices.

Candidates with prior public housing and rent calculation experience will be preferred.

Interviewees will be required to take a written Rent Calculation Assessment when they are interviewed.

NRHA will consider equivalent substitutes for education and/or experience, provided that the candidate can demonstrate that he/she has obtained the knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the job.

NRHA offers a competitive compensation and benefits package. The full pay range for this job classification is $25,022.40 to $43,596.80, with a target hiring pay range from $25,022.40 to $34,309.60. The candidate’s compensation offer will be determined by the candidate’s work history and skill sets.
