APS4 Administrative Assistant (Affirmative Measures) Job at Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority – in Armidale NSW
The filling of this vacancy is intended to constitute an affirmative measure under section 8(1) of the ‘Racial Discrimination Act 1975’. This vacancy is only available to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait people.
The Assessment, Investigation and Monitoring Section assesses reports of non-compliance, conducts monitoring and audits, engages with regulated entities, conducts investigations and takes enforcement action. The program assists with ensuring the continued safety, quality and effectiveness of registered agricultural and veterinary products in Australia as well as addressing non-registered agricultural and veterinary products. The team utilises a range of options to ensure compliance including education, engagement, administrative intervention, civil and criminal enforcement.
In this role, you will use your administrative skills to assist with the evaluation and assessment of reports and allegations submitted to the APVMA.
Working with your supervisor, you will conduct assessments of reported non-compliance, analyse data and make evidence-based recommendations. You will work collegiately with internal and external stakeholders, maintain collaborative working relationships and contribute to the statutory and corporate objectives of the authority.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Utilise APVMA information and databases, input and extract data and associated duties to ensure data integrity;
Analyse information involving agricultural and veterinary chemical products to assess and determine facts and evidence;
Provide investigative, analytical, project and administrative support to the leadership team and contribute to operational matters; this will include managing incoming and outgoing workflows;
Report on operational activity including preparing briefings and presentations;
Liaise with registrants, farmers, veterinarians, Government agencies and members of the public on routine matters; and
Contribute to the continuous improvement of the business area.
To be considered for these roles you will need:
Appropriate qualifications or equivalent experience in administration, investigations, scientific or veterinary disciplines;
The ability to obtain a good understanding of the regulatory framework in which the APVMA operates;
Experience in managing large amounts of data;
Analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage projects, evaluate information, exercise sound judgement, and clearly communicate outcomes; and,
An ability to be resilient, show initiative, prioritise workloads, meet deadlines and deliver quality outcomes.
