£39,438 – £43,744 per annum for 36 hours per week, based at Merrow Complex, Merrow Lane, Merrow, Guildford, Surrey GU4 7BQ.

Due to the nature of the role it is essential that you have a full driving license and your own transportation, allowing you to undertake site visits across the County when required.

About the role

An opportunity has arisen within Surrey County Council’s Highway Design & Delivery Team. We are looking for a highly motivated individual with relevant experience, who can make a valuable contribution towards improving the highway network.

Based within the Highway Design & Delivery Team, within the Local Highway Services Group, you will liaise with a broad range of other partners and stakeholders, acting on behalf of the Client organisation.

The dynamic team focuses on designing and implementing highway improvements, to programme and budget, whilst at the same time providing technical advice and guidance across the whole of the Highways Service and to other partners (e.g. Districts and Boroughs).

The Role

The Assistant Engineering Project Manager will assist in the project management of both minor and major highways schemes from concept through to implementation. This will involve helping to deliver engineering projects through the end to end process which includes feasibility, development of funding bids, designing, procuring and implementing schemes through either the external supply chain or through specifically procured contracts including NEC3 (or 4) and TPC.

The postholder will be expected to provide professional advice to Clients and Stakeholders to manage expectations and opportunities as well as ensuring communication / stakeholder management plans are efficiently and effectively planned and managed.

Degree/ HNC or equivalent, or substantial relevant experience in a relevant subject area.

Substantial practical or professional experience and understanding of engineering project management and the New Engineering Contract

Proven ability to apply project management principles and techniques to a wide range of complex projects or programmes

Proven ability to establish and maintain highly effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders

Proven written and oral communication with the ability to influence and work in collaboration with others
