Job Description

The Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs is responsible for ensuring successful day-to-day clinical operations and delivery of clinical/patient care services for all UConn Health School of Dental Medicine patient care areas. The incumbent will be primarily responsible for overseeing all aspects of patient care delivery, including operational efficiency and quality of patient related services at all clinical sites, including the faculty practice, off-site practices and School of Dental Medicine hospital-related clinical activity. The incumbent oversees health records and their security, clinical billing, compliance, call center operations, with overall supervision of all clinical staff, including direct supervision of clinical managers, clinical procurement, and staff interacting with patients.

The Associate Dean will develop, establish, implement, and monitor compliance with, policies and procedures consistent with the patient care and educational needs of the School of Dental Medicine and in concert with regulatory requirements.

The incumbent will lead efforts to continuously improve quality outcomes and clinical operations in a manner that contributes to an enhanced patient experience. S/he will oversee and ensure the quality assurance/quality improvement processes for the School of Dental Medicine’s clinical operations. This includes key process improvements in patient access, safety and infection control, clinical flow, population based QA, and patient experience.

S/he will oversee the functioning of key systems vital to clinical operations, including but not limited to: efficient systems for scheduling; management of clinic flow, space, equipment and instrumentation; assignment of clinical staff and related support personnel; referral tracking and coordination; and management of dental prosthetic support services.

The incumbent reports to the Dean and collaborates closely with members of the clinical faculty and staff. The Associate Dean will work with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, predoctoral practice leaders, and postgraduate residency program directors to ensure a clinical environment and associated activities that are supportive of our educational programs.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Develops, reviews, and updates policies, procedures, process improvement, training and evaluation that support efficient and effective workflows, productivity, quality improvement, and customer service

Monitors and ensures clinical and operational performance goals are established, maintained and evaluated. Works with clinical management to optimize staffing, scheduling, workflows, policies and procedures as needed

Facilitates and supports process improvement initiatives

Responsible for ensuring an excellent patient experience and that patients complaints and grievances are addressed and resolved in a timely and responsible manner

Ensures adherence to policies, procedures and standards regarding quality of care, customer service, patient access, productivity, confidentiality, management of records, billing, receipts, and facility.

Works collaboratively with UConn Health compliance and regulatory administration

Creates, analyzes and presents data and reports as relevant to clinical operations

Develops and monitors program goals and objectives, including clinical visits and productivity
