Bioengineer / Neuroscientist (gn*) as Scientific Staff of the “Neuroimaging” Research Group

Full-Time with 38,5 (hours/week)

German salary grade: E 13 TV-L

Reference number 05508 – *gn=gender neutral

The initial employment is envisioned for three years with the intention of continued employment. Compensation depending on qualification and assignment according to TV-L wage agreement.

Why do some people with multiple sclerosis show disability progression while others do not? Does the immune system trigger or rather respond to the neuronal damage underlying this progression? Our neuroimaging research group at the Institute of Translational Neurology is dedicated to the study of this interplay between inflammation, demyelination and neurodegeneration in multiple sclerosis. To achieve this, we combine conventional and novel experimental imaging technologies with cutting edge post processing and statistical tools. You will join a dynamic research institute working in close collaboration with the Department of Neurology.

Position and Role:
Self-management and maintenance of the research group’s IT structure

Conceptualization, implementation and maintenance of a central large MRI database

Development and deployment of a medical image postprocessing pipeline using Data-intensive methods including multi-site harmonization, quality control, machine learning algorithms

Complex statistical analysis of neuroimaging data

Ensure confidentiality for sensitive documents (protected health information)

Master’s degree or equivalent in Bioengineering, Neuroscience, or related areas

Proficiency programming in one or more languages (particularly Python, MATLAB, R)

Experience with database creation and management is desirable

Expertise in medical image processing including machine learning

Experience with neuroimaging analysis packages (e. g. SPM, Freesurfer, FSL) is beneficial

A PhD/Doctoral Research degree or equivalent is preferred, but not required

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Passion of advancing the understanding of neurological diseases by applying computational methods

Ability to work independently

Organizational and efficiency skills including planning and decision-making abilities to complete assigned duties in a timely manner, attention to detail, logical thinking/analytical abilities and problem-solving skills

Creativity, enthusiasm, adaptability and good communication skills

Fluency in English
