The Parliamentary Business Resource (PBR) Framework Branch in Ministerial and Parliamentary Services Division (MaPS), within the federal Department of Finance (Finance), provides services and support to clients, being current and former Parliamentarians and their staff. PBR Framework Branch provides advice and support services on a range of matters in relation to clients’ work expenses in accordance with federal legislation. These include property and facilities management and administration of work expenses.

PBR Framework Branch has a presence in the Commonwealth Parliament Offices (CPO) in each state and territory capital and manages the provision of services at these facilities.

As part of a small team, the Security Coordinator is responsible for operational physical security for the CPO and Commonwealth electorate offices in line with the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF) and departmental policy.

The role will have primary responsibility to work closely with the State Manager, Finance’s Agency Security Adviser and other Security Advisers. A focus of the role will be to develop and deliver a suite of operating procedures, and CPO specific protective security policies based on the PSPF and agency specific security threats and risks. The Security Coordinator will be required to liaise with CPO tenants, other departments, security and law enforcement agencies on matters of security relating to electorate offices, the CPO and control of secure areas within the CPO.

The role will also be required to perform ongoing monitoring and status reporting of protective security procedures and systems, including issuing and maintenance of security pass and access systems.

A Positive Vetting security clearance is required to access and assist in the management of highly sensitive and secure areas with the CPO.

Under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the Australian Public Service (APS) unless the Agency Head has agreed otherwise, in writing.

Successful applicants will be required to undergo the process to obtain and maintain, or continue to hold the required security clearance level for the role as indicated in the downloadable job pack. All Finance staff are required to have a minimum baseline security clearance prior to commencement.

This role is being advertised as both ongoing and non-ongoing. Roles may be offered as either ongoing or non-ongoing subject to business needs and/or candidate preference. Where a non-ongoing position is offered, the role will be filled as a specified term vacancy for an initial period of six months. Specified term vacancies may be offer for a maximum of 18 months initially, and be extended up to a maximum period of three years.
