Saskatchewan Corrections, Policing and Public Safety is seeking a highly-skilled, self-directed and motivated individual with strong teamwork, interpersonal and problem solving skills. This individual will act as a positive role model to maintain the integrity of the Justice System and the people it serves.
Under the general direction of the Deputy Director Operations and in keeping with the Ministry’s strategic plan, you will ensure the safety and security of inmates and staff through consistent application of policy and procedures; carry out the mission, goals, and objectives of the centre in a manner to meet the needs of offenders; and lead and manage the human resources on shift by maintaining positive and effective working relationships with a diverse workforce. You will be responsible for operational leadership ensuring that facility and community security and safety standards are developed, instituted and maintained. You will work directly with the Deputy Director Operations and Assistant Deputy Director Operations on the safety of staff and inmates and the security of the facility and community.
You will supervise CO I’s who provide custody, control and supervision of inmates within the Pine Grove Provincial Correctional Centre. You will co-ordinate, assign and prioritize the work of the CO I’s as well as provide advice and guidance on work procedures and special security routines and ensure those procedures are being followed. You will ensure that the work done by yourself and the staff you supervise is performed in a safe, co-operative and effective manner. As a Correctional Officer III, you will be responsible for Probationary Reviews of Correctional Officer I’s, Individual Personal Performance Plans and reviewing entitlement usage by the staff you will supervise. As a compassionate and respectful supervisor, you must ensure your responsibilities and those of your staff are performed in a safe, co-operative and effective manner.
You will be required to search, gain, control and maintain custody of illegal contraband, following policy and procedure.
We are seeking a candidate who has extensive experience as a supervisor as they will be expected to lead, instruct, guide, coach and encourage staff and inmates and ensuring compliance with policies, procedures and regulations.
To be successful in this competition, candidates must have knowledge of the criminal justice processes; human behaviour, interpersonal communications and counseling methodologies, responding to inmates in conflict with the law. You must also have knowledge of institutional policies and procedures as they relate to static and dynamic security. You will need a good understanding of institutional operations as well as supervisory experience.
Typically, the competencies required for this position would be obtained through a university degree in the Social Sciences/Human Services or a closely related discipline, a diploma in Correctional Studies, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
