As the Country Communications Manager for the Power Grids business in South and Southern Africa, your mission is to provide strategic guidance for the Power Grids business internal and external communications programs, in line with Global Business Communications strategy, corporate identity and brand positioning. You will ensure executional excellence in all communications measures for the PG business.

You will be a part of the Middle East and Africa communications team in Power Grids and report to Head of Communications, MEA and South America and South Korea.

Your responsibilities

As country communications manager, you are responsible for all communications activities in South and Southern Africa in close cooperation with the respective country manager. This entails planning, implementation, and follow-up of all communication activities, both internal and external, and to all relevant target groups. It is a broad area of responsibility that includes both brand positioning, employee engagement, content marketing and media relations in South and Southern Africa. Coordinating responsibility for the activities in terms of planning, production, and execution in accordance with the communication plan as per country’s needs. Responsible to propose and follow-up measurements of comms activities. Plan, support, prepare and manage responses to positive and negative inquiries from externals sources – includes crisis and issue-related social media escalations and responses. Create informative and interesting press releases, press kits, newsletters, launches, and related marketing materials. Respond to communication-related issues in a timely manner. Establish an internal communications strategy, ensure organizational initiatives and projects are successfully communicated to employees and stakeholders.

Strategy: Define and lead execution of the communication strategy for the business South and Southern Africa, based on the overall business and market strategy; regularly measure and evaluate the effectiveness of the communication strategy against agreed objectives and KPIs; ensure relevant communication strategy and plans align with global business strategies and guidelines.

Content Management, Internal and Digital Communications: Develop and manage the business internal and external communications in alignment with business themes and country priorities. Manage the application of the brand per Group guidelines and ensure the consistent application of visual branding and business messages in all communications and support the local business leadership team with executive communications.

Event Management & Media Relations: provide management guidance and develop business messages for key events such as industry conferences, tradeshows, and employee meetings in line with corporate branding strategy as well as develop and manage relationships with media.

Your background

Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in media and content interactions, ideally with an interest in technology and innovation.

Cross functional communication skills (media, investors, branding, editorial, web, internal, etc.).

International experience – cross cultural.

Proactive engagement with national, regional, business and stakeholders.

Understanding of digital communications channels and the power of social media.

Exceptional writing/editing skills.

Proven experience to analyze and develop relevant metrics in dealing with different stakeholders.

Strong networking ability and multi-cultural credentials.

Direct work experience with senior management.

Fluent in English.

Proven experience to analyze, develop and collaborate relevant metrics in dealing with different stakeholders internally and externally, be a people person.

Solid experience to deal with media request, both mainstream as well as trade.

Must be able to multitask and work well under pressure.

Excellent organizational and leadership abilities.

Strong knowledge of communication practices and techniques.

Nice to have: Business knowledge or at least industrial technology/capital equipment sectors.
