Summary

Leads and directs implementation of financial functions for the AARP Foundation (Foundation) which includes a $220 million annual budget and $500M investment portfolio, with a particular emphasis on social impact investing. Manages the annual budget, multi-year financial plan, and quarterly forecasting processes that are part of the consolidated process on behalf of Foundation leadership and AARP Finance. Prepares reports on planning processes and financial results for the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors. Provides strategic direction and counsel to leadership of the AARP Foundation and AARP on financial management matters. Serves as a key contact with AARP Treasury to provide input and oversight. Supports the Foundation Impact Investment Committee and is the primary contact for AARP Foundation’s social impact investments portfolio.

Responsibilities

Directs the Foundation’s annual budget process, multi-year financial plan, and quarterly reforecasting process in collaboration with AARP Finance and the Enterprise. Works closely with the CFO and other Foundation leadership to review inputs, provide problem resolution and solutions, and analyze financial circumstances.

Ensures close collaboration with AARP Accounting Services on all Foundation accounting and coding practices. Act as an authoritative source on questions regarding coding and the general ledger to a wide set of Foundation audiences. Conducts trainings, when appropriate.

Prepares reports, commentary, and analysis to the Foundation Finance Committee on financial planning outputs and actual results.

Coordinates all financial functions of the Foundation, including accounting, cash management, financial analyses, forecasting and budgeting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, investments, payroll, and other treasury activities.

Manages the execution of the impact investment strategy, including researching potential new impact investments, with an emphasis on achieving impact at scale in support of the Foundation’s strategic plan outcome goals. Monitors compliance and oversight of all social impact investments.

Works with AARP Treasury to ensure Foundation investments are managed in accordance with the investment policy and identifies potential new AARP Foundation investments, particularly alternative investments that complement our mission.

Makes suggestions and recommendations for improvements to policy, processes, and procedures that would enhance the management and oversight of the investment portfolios.

Reviews Foundation tax returns and works with independent auditors in support of audit processes.

Exercises strong leadership skills, judgment, and decision-making in advising, leading, and managing of all financial matters and works with leadership to effectively problem-solve and mentor on financial issues.

Reviews outgoing and incoming grant agreements, as well as major contracts, in conjunction with the Office of the General Counsel.

Ensures the establishment and implementation of best-of-class business policies and procedures, monitoring compliance, as well as working with the appropriate department(s) to identify new process improvement opportunities.

Requirements

Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline

10 or more years of relevant finance experience.
