The Geotechnical Engineer will be working with our Presales Engineering and Estimating team to support Business Development and Operations teams to optimize bids for and perform final designs for high-quality and efficient solar PV systems. The Geotechnical Engineer will play an integral and active role in helping CS Energy acquire new business and execute projects within set budgets.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare design documents for solar civil design including calculations, drawings and civil specifications.
Perform stormwater modeling, basin design, hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, grading plan development, soil cut/fill volume calculations, road design and more as part of civil design package.
Conduct site visits to support site evaluation, suitability, and due diligence efforts.
Analyze reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, tests, aerial photographs, soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and other topographical and geologic data to evaluate surface and subsurface conditions of each project site
Strong ability to integrate both cost and technical requirements to arrive at an optimized solution for sitework and foundation design
Evaluate various available structural products and design concepts in the market to pick the most suitable solar plant foundation for the project site
Coordinate geotechnical and pile load capacity testing at project sites, analyze results to determine project feasibility
Communicate complex structural engineering concepts and derived conclusion internally and externally to support subsurface risk analyses on projects
Create and review of structural drawings and calculations
Perform engineering calculations related to settlement, pile capacity, slope stability, seismic site classification, etc.
Grow and develop new civil and structural engineering capabilities of the team
BS in Civil Engineering is required (advanced degree in Geotechnical Engineering is an advantage)
7+ years of experience in civil design (experience in design of solar plant site layouts and/or structural foundations is an advantage)
PE highly desired
Good analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to details
Expertise building a team in a growth market by assessing, recruiting and developing A-players
Proven Success in managing and mentoring employees
Experience developing and implementing departmental standards and training
Ability to work well with others, multi-task and manage effectively in a deadline-driven, challenging environment – accurate and calm under pressure
Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
Excellent Communication Skills (verbal & written)
Ability to Travel as needed
