We are currently seeking an experienced individual to join this team in the role of Head of Fraud HSBC UK.

The role holder is accountable for the end to end fraud strategy in the UK entity, setting strategic vision of Fraud outcomes and achievement of the organisations risk appetite in relation to fraud. Taking ownership of Fraud Mitigation Strategy, Product Management, Fraud Transaction Strategy, Research and Analytics, Strategy, Engagement and Governance, and Fraud Operations and accountability for setting and achievement of performance levels in each of these areas.

This role manages the collective delivery of controls to achieve effective management of fraud risk on behalf of Risk Owners. The role is responsible for the provision of 1LOD control performance insight to inform Risk Owner decision and Risk Steward oversight.

In this role, you will:
Set the strategic vision for Fraud in HSBC UK and locally deploy, manage and maintain oversight of the activities and fraud controls.

Orchestrate the synchronised operation of in scope controls, setting and monitoring performance levels, challenging effectiveness and driving control owners to innovate and improve their controls.

Act as the designated single point of contact for fraud controls, providing stakeholders with advice on the prioritisation as well as an escalation route for ineffective operations.

Ensure effectiveness and critical assessment of management information on the performance of fraud activity and controls.

The job holder will be required to work closely with senior leadership across all stakeholder groups to ensure the diverse range of fraud controls operate in a synchronised manner.

The role requires a significant level of influencing skills and very strong leadership to impact change on areas outside the role holder’s direct functional control.


To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

Experience of managing an End to End fraud operation, including creating the fraud strategy.

Experience of designing and defining a fraud operating model, within a financial services organisation.

An understand of how digital innovation can help and hinder in the fight against fraudsters

The job holder is required to have experience in working with controls that manage fraud risk.

Successful track record in influencing is essential, in particular the application of this skill in areas outside their direct span of control.

Experience in a global business is desirable but not essential.

A background or deep understanding of operational risk is also desirable.

World class influencing skills, including the ability to communicate on a diverse range of topics to multiple stakeholders.

Ability to articulate complex and sensitive information and situations in meaningful and easily understood terms

Track record of resilience and confident challenge when in dealing with senior stakeholders to influence change without direct responsibility for resources or budget.

The base location for this role is HSBC UK, 1CS, Birmingham (3 days per week) but there is flexibility to work from other locations / home.
