Position Description:
Head of IT

This role covers Covanta’s European Operations.

The Head of IT will report to the Financial Director.

The Head of IT will oversee the IT and OT organisation and interfaces and have overall responsibility for cyber security for all European sites.

IT Strategy. This position will be responsible for developing IT strategies to enable the business to achieve strategic and operational goals, as well as leading the organisation’s IT capability to optimise returns from IT investments to improve operational effectiveness. Key responsibilities include working with the business functions and external partners to coordinate the implementation of new IT systems, infrastructure, and services across the plants in the UK and Ireland, adopting a cloud-based IT environment and a ‘SaaS / Cloud first’ applications strategy.

Transformation. The role will also support considerable transformation efforts during the next 18 months, including the replacement of the Core ERP, cloud hosting and networks.

Business as usual IT. Ongoing responsibilities include managing an IT team of c.6 FTEs and a number third party suppliers for AMS, Infrastructure services, and end user support. The team and outsourcing partners will provide IT support for the local Covanta staff as well as providing remote support for IT operations across UK & Ireland as necessary. Key technologies include Microsoft Dynamics 365 F&O ERP or NetSuite ERP or IFS ERP, Azure or AWS Cloud hosting, OT to IT interfaces, voice/data networks, end user computing, c.42 applications, and security management services.

Key Responsibilities

Business Transformation, IT Standardisation and Simplification

Provide a clear vision of the IT strategy and architecture, provide direction, governance, and best practices

Coordinate the execution of the IT transformation work currently underway alongside the Programme Director and third-party suppliers

Build relationships with business groups and their leaders

Develop a detailed understanding of business issues, challenges, and opportunities

Identify and evaluate business opportunities for innovation and further development of IT products/services

Create and maintain highly professional, customer oriented, “business-first”, innovative and future-focused IT capabilities

IT Operations

Provide support for ERP to ensure ongoing business operations

Manage third party suppliers, vendors, system integrators and outsource partners supporting IT and OT systems

Manage the delivery of secure and stable IT products and services to support business needs

Client Service End User Computing

Procurement of new IT services

Preserve assets, information security and control structures

Control and manage IT budgets, ensuring expenditure within the IT function

Establish metrics for managing IT effectiveness and for measuring the impact of IT on the business

Establish and enforce IT policies, processes, and portfolio management

Hire, develop, inspire, reward, and retain a team of IT professionals
