Job Description

The Information Services Department is seeking a highly motivated, energetic, results-oriented Cloud Infrastructure/Operations Engineer. The candidate will have experience with cloud technology and the adoption experience.

Primary Duties:
This candidate will serve as a leader, innovator, and evangelist, in developing the Laboratory’s internal and external cloud presence with a focus on IaaS and PaaS solutions.

Establish a foundation for projects utilizing AWS and other cloud platforms, and guide the Laboratory’s technical programs to ensure success in building, migrating, and optimizing applications, software and services in the cloud.

Establish implementation standards and methods such as configuration and change management

Participate in deep architectural discussions to ensure solutions are designed for successful deployment in the cloud.

Develop roadmaps for current and future deployments.

Ensure security is integrated into all cloud services.

Build, monitor, and manage the cloud infrastructure.

Monitor and optimize cloud workloads and performance

Review current and future AWS implementations with the sectors in ISD and suggest ways to improve and standardize the cloud offerings.

This position is under supervision of the sector manager.

Deep technical background (operating systems, networking, application performance management, load balancing, security systems, etc.)

Experience in building large distributed systems

Experience in supporting highly available applications on Linux and Windows virtual environments

Strong scripting skills and familiarity with monitoring tools

Developing and maintaining business continuity and disaster recovery processes

At least 3 years of experience in implementing cloud-based solutions (e.g. AWS, AZURE, Google) preferred

AWS Certifications: Preferred

Other Qualifications:
Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

This role requires participation in an on call schedule as well as a certain degree of flexibility as some work (planned/unplanned) must be done outside of major production hours during pre-scheduled maintenance windows.

Additional Information

This position requires an individual with excellent communication (both oral and written) and organizational skills. The individual must be able to work in a fast-paced environment at times with minimal supervision and execute project and administrative tasks with a high degree of quality, while following existing processes and establishing new operational procedures and best practices where necessary. Additionally, the position requires the ability to work with members of other teams and staff to achieve all department and organizational goals.
