We are hiring up to 8 Full-time Temporary (up to 7 months) Labourer 3 positions working out of our Kennedale site in Edmonton, AB.

As a Labourer 3, you are primarily responsible for supporting the Drainage System Combo Operators in day-to-day activities related to the maintenance of the wastewater collection system. This skilled role involves assisting in the operation and maintenance of heavy-duty drainage system cleaning equipment. Daily work is normally performed with little supervision, and you are accountable for executing written and verbal instructions given by the Drainage System Combo Operators. In the Labourer 3 role, you will be accountable for the safe and efficient assistance in the operation of the equipment assigned, and performing minor maintenance to equipment when required. All work is to be performed in accordance with the Drainage Services Environmental Management System (ISO 14001). All operating and maintenance is to be done in a safe manner and in compliance with EPCOR and Occupational Health & Safety regulations.

What you’d be responsible for

Reporting to the Preventative Maintenance Manager, the Labourer 3 is accountable for but not limited to:

Assisting the Drainage System Combo Operators in the day-to-day activities which includes: high pressure flushing, CB Cleaning, clean/releasing plugged mainlines and other related equipment that may be used in the maintenance of the wastewater collection system.

Working under the direction of the Drainage System Combo Operators to setup/ teardown equipment. Ensure worksite is safe and housekeeping maintained while work is being performed.

Performing routine tasks associated with the operation and upkeep of the Combo units.

Assisting the Drainage System Combo Operators with daily checks/inspections, lubrication needs, and minor maintenance requirements.

Participating and contributing to workplace safety culture.

Communicating and escalating issues to the appropriate Labour Foreman 3, when necessary.

Providing a high level of customer service to promote EPCOR brand.

Possessing thorough knowledge of the equipment, tools, and materials used, including knowledge on drainage systems.

Providing assistance to other areas of Drainage Operations as needed.

What’s required to be successful

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

High school diploma (GED, or equivalent level of secondary education).

Alberta Environment Wastewater Collection Certification – Level 1 is a valuable asset.

Minimum of one (1) year related labour experience. Previous experience in Wastewater Collection System Maintenance is desired.

Possession of a valid Alberta Class 5 Motor Vehicle Operator’s License with 6 or fewer demerits. Ability to qualify for and maintain a valid EPCOR driver’s permit. A 5 year Commercial Drivers Abstract may be required.

Experience of working with the combination units is considered an asset.

Basic computer knowledge for data entry.

Working knowledge on the methods, practices and rules of operating the assigned equipment safely.

Able to meet the physical demands required of this position, which will include physical strength and dexterity to perform medium to heavy work and frequent lifting of materials weighing up to fifty pounds.

Proven ability to operate equipment skillfully, safely and in compliance with applicable laws or regulations.

As the ideal candidate, you have well-developed and effective verbal and interpersonal skills combined with the ability to work well within a team environment. You have a strong commitment to safety and are able to work unsupervised in a busy and occasionally stressful environment. Other competencies you demonstrate include taking initiative, adapting to change, and focusing on continuous improvement for not only yourself but the team you are working with.
