Responsibilities / Essential Functions: JOB SUMMARY: The Lab Information Systems (LIS) Product Manager serves as the project lead for all LIS initiatives and is responsible for the management, design and development of products within Tennessee Oncology’s laboratory and pathology ecosystem. This includes maintaining reliable uptime and functionality of the core lab applications, ancillary systems as well as fulfilling integration and reporting requirements. This position will be coordinating closely with the Lab Medical, Technical and Molecular Directors to identify, address and implement the technology needs and requirements of the lab as well as playing a key role in forecasting those needs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Serves as the primary administrator for core lab applications and their connections to ancillary services, delegating and/or restricting the responsibilities of others as it relates to support of core lab applications in the interest of ensuring quality support
  • Develops, implements, maintains and supports integrations and interfaces between systems such as EMR, Practice Management and external lab resources including those between the LIS and lab instrumentation
  • Manages the product lifecycle for LIS products including implementation, testing cycles and upgrades
  • Develops ad-hoc and custom reports at the request of the lab staff as needed, utilizing relational databases and other data sources as required • Builds, owns and maintains lab-related SharePoint sites to the specifications of the lab users, participating in knowledge sharing as it relates to the product services group and their shared responsibilities
  • Works closely with the product services team to maintain SLAs and a high-quality support model
  • Identifies opportunities and recommends improvements to lab systems, providing advice and consultation on the lab information system and laboratory technology as they apply to the clinical laboratory
  • Maintain current and relevant knowledge of LIS application best practices and security standards
  • Serves as an escalation point for LIS issues, supporting the technical services group as a trusted resource on fronts both internal and external • Effectively communicate with technical services staff, end-users and executives
  • Provide accurate and timely information to the CIO, Director of Technology and other Tennessee Oncology employees/departments as requested
  • Promote a team atmosphere and maintain good relations with Tennessee Oncology’s internal and external user base and its partners

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: • Knowledge of laboratory application analysis and techniques needed to sustain operation of laboratory information systems

Knowledge of technical models as they relate to application support ranging from client/server relationships, relational databases and interfaces, all the way to serial and TCP/IP communication protocols

Understands laboratory workflows and their relationship to the LIS and its connected services

  • Advanced interface knowledge and experience with HL7 concepts, such as message translation, including the ability to build, troubleshoot and monitor interfaces utilizing the Mirth interface engine
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with Orchard Software’s Harvest, Copia and Sequoia products
  • Strong familiarity with Beckman Coulter, Helena, Sysmex, and Abbott lab instruments and their interfaces
  • Strong knowledge and experience using MS SQL and PostgreSQL for querying, report writing and configuration of integrated reporting services
  • Experience with PowerShell scripting as it relates to file copy and transfer as well as SharePoint underpinnings
  • Superior capacity to track and manage multiple projects • Critical thinking and able to work on complex and transformative endeavors with the ability to independently research and perform analysis to resolve complex issues

Qualifications & Requirements: • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and/or 5+ years of experience supporting a Lab Information System in an administrative capacity

Physical Requirements: • Must be willing and able to lift 25 pounds or more

  • Must be willing and able to travel to satellite clinics when necessary
