At the present time, a vacancy exists for a full-time Network and Systems Technician within the Innovative Educational Services division at the Chester County Intermediate Unit. This position will be on assignment at Wallingford-Swarthmore School District, located at 200 S. Providence Rd, Wallingford, PA. PLEASE NOTE: This position is expected to be temporary, with an end date of June 30, 2021. An extension may be possible but is not guaranteed.

Summary of Position:
The Network and Systems Technician is a member of the external technology services team but will be fulfilling the needs of the technology department of Wallingford-Swarthmore School District (WSSD). This position has the added benefit of collaborating and consulting with a small team of CCIU network architects, engineers, and managers with years of varied experience. This position works closely with the WSSD Network and Site Services Administrator to plan, lead, and deliver customer support services to schools including installation, troubleshooting, user assistance, and training. The ideal candidate will also act as a mentor and elevated support to the building technology support specialists at WSSD. Functions may include diagnosing and resolving problems, planning and analysis of work processes, researching and reporting trends and patterns of problems, developing training materials and performing computing/information system training sessions, developing and maintaining problem tracking databases, installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining hardware and software, performing backup and recovery operations, and consulting with users to identify needs and requirements.

The Network and Systems Technician also provides support for all networked information systems including Servers, Networks, Electronic Security, Physical Security, and Telephony. This position is expected to evaluate and recommend solutions; plan and execute implementation; install and manage hardware, operating systems and applications with the objective of providing robust and stable server operating platforms.

Bachelor’s Degree or higher required

Six (6) or more years of experience supporting information technology, preferably in an educational setting, required

Cisco or Microsoft certification preferred

Other manufacturer certifications preferred

Detailed knowledge of devices such as computers, tablets, smart phones, VoIP phones, audio-visual systems, Interactive White Boards, printers, scanners

Knowledge of email/collaboration systems (Microsoft Exchange), remote backups, account administration, file rights management

Moderate understanding of the unique needs of implementing systems in an educational organization

Possess a thorough understanding of all the management systems (primarily SCCM), group policies, software settings and software delivery methods that influence the operation and user interface of devices and location and backup of user data

Ability to perform short-term project management, i.e., Task Leadership, of defined projects, leading teams of moderate technical complexity

Ability to learn how to support new devices as they are encountered

Apply technology skills and knowledge to new situations

Competence with routing protocols

Experience researching present and future technologies

Test and analyze malicious code, vulnerable software, security tools, and patches

Current police, child abuse, and FBI Fingerprint clearances required (conducted by the CCIU upon hire)

Duties & Responsibilities:
Provide technology support for devices such as computers, tablets, smart phones, VoIP phones, audio-visual systems, Interactive White Boards, printers, scanners, learn how to support new devices as they are encountered

Facilitate user access to local, department and organization data

Provide escalation, backup support, serve as a technical mentor to other IT staff

Troubleshoot and support connectivity needed and access to on-premises and cloud-based systems

Support an increased scope and breadth of systems, requiring a deep understanding of the technology and the application in a business or instructional setting

Install and configure server application software

Implement advanced routing, ACLs, VLAN and other protocols in network switches

Implement advanced changes in server clusters (often requiring PowerShell)

Evaluate security vulnerabilities within assigned area of responsibility and implement solutions

Support existing data back-up strategies and evaluate new tools/services as needed

Assess infrastructure in different customer environments and make recommendations for improvement

Benchmark existing and planned capabilities against best practices

Develop strategies for deploying server patches and vulnerability remediation

Salary Range 2019-2020:
Project staff, Band 14, Exempt, $56,595 – $70,743 annually, based upon experience

Monday – Friday, 7.5 hours/day, 260 days/year
