This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic post-doctoral graduate with the ability and confidence to manage a 30-month collaborative project with the Department of Mathematics at The University of Manchester and Arup, a multidisciplinary engineering firm operating in all areas of built environment.

The aim of the KTP is to develop and embed leading edge algorithms from numerical linear algebra into Arup’s next generation software for structural engineering simulation. These algorithms will enable structural engineers to carry out faster and more accurate analysis, leading to safe and sustainable design of buildings, bridges, and other infrastructure.

The position will offer:

The project will ideally suit someone with academic or industrial experience in numerical software development, high performance computing, or scientific computing. You should have a PhD or equivalent in mathematics, or in a mathematically-based field such as computational mechanics or physics. Experience must include writing algorithms, preferably in a numerical linear algebra setting combined with software development skills in a compiled low-level language such C++.

This post is funded through a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) award, a UK Government scheme intended to promote sustained and mutually beneficial relationships between universities and industry.

Based in the Arup office in central Manchester (3 Piccadilly Place, Manchester M1 3BN) the successful candidate will work directly with supervisors from both the University and Arup and will use the facilities and resources of both organisations.
