Job Summary:
Shriners Hospitals for Children – Portland is seeking a full-time Patient Access Representative to join the team! This position is responsible for and specializes in the patient registration process.


Registration/check-in of patients for hospital and clinic appointments
Accurately maintain patient data, insurance information, and other pertinent information
Obtain necessary authorization forms and accurately document information in computer
Perform insurance verification functions, for both commercial and multi-state Medicaid plans
Assist in the management of work-lists related to referrals, denials, and authorization requirements
Assist with financial counseling functions for Uninsured patients
Support new patient intake and patient scheduling functions as needed
Provide superior customer service to patients, families, visitors, and staff

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

2 years of prior patient access/registration experience, experience conducting insurance verification for both commercial and Medicaid plans
High School Diploma or equivalent is required, Associates Degree in a related field is preferred
Demonstrates proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook), and medical record programs such as Cerner, Epic, etc.
Demonstrates proficiency in HIPAA knowledge and compliance
Demonstrates excellent customer service skills, the ability to build rapport, and effective relationship building skills
Demonstrates strong time management skills and the ability to prioritize
Demonstrates strong organization skills and strong attention to detail
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work well in a team environment
Accurate keyboarding, filing, multi-line phones, and general clerical skills
Spanish language proficiency is preferred
