The Department of Environment is seeking motivated, professional and engaging individuals to join our Yukon Parks – Park Officer team.

This role is responsible for field monitoring, compliance and enforcement of natural resource legislation in Yukon Parks by conducting front and back-country patrols in Parks. The role allows you to be a parks ambassador in an educational and natural resource protection role while ensuring that our territorial parks and campgrounds remain safe, pleasant, family oriented places that visitors will want to visit, enjoy and return to.

A front line and field level position, the Park Officer’s job is both physically and mentally demanding, yet diverse in its challenges, and rewarding. A tremendous amount of responsibility and trust is invested in each Park Officer. Working in both the front and backcountry of the Yukon, it is essential to work well independently and in a close team environment.

Essential Qualifications

Postsecondary education in Environmental Sciences, Natural Resource Management, Natural Resource Law Enforcement, Conservation and Environmental Law Enforcement, Renewable Resource Management or related discipline.

Significant experience working in a compliance and/or enforcement role interpreting, applying and enforcing legislation and regulations relating to parks or renewable resource management

Significant experience working with and educating the public and other stakeholders in the area of natural resource and park management

Experience in effectively responding to and resolving complaints and conflicts.

Experience in backcountry travel, navigation or field monitoring

Experience working in/around helicopters would be an asset

Candidates who have education, training, and/or experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above may be given equal consideration.

PROFESSIONAL WRITING to meet a high standard required to accurately and cohesively document and prepare reports.

CURRENT RESEARCH AND INVESTIGATIVE SKILLS to successfully conduct a wide variety of investigations.

FIELD WORK EXPERIENCE in the backcountry and leading/participating in the safety planning and conduction of backcountry patrols or natural resource field monitoring programs.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Valid Yukon Class 5 driver’s licence or equivalent
  • Security Clearance
  • Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL)
  • First Aid/CPR (or ability to obtain within 2 months of hire)

Job Requirements(s):

  • Wearing and maintaining a uniform
  • Working outdoors in a variety of settings (including remote locations), weather and terrain conditions
  • Frequent travel within the territory
  • Evening/late night/early morning work and weekend shifts are requirements of this position
  • Lifting or moving of heavy objects up to 25 kilograms may be required
