Prof. Dr. Nicole Strittmatter has joined TUM in October 2021 as Assistant Professor of Analytical Chemistry and is in the process of creating her own research group of which successful candidates would be a part of. She has previously worked at the Department of Surgery and Cancer at Imperial College London and spent 6 years in pharmaceutical industry at AstraZeneca in their R&D headquarters in Cambridge, UK in the Department Clinical Pharmacology and Safety Sciences (CPSS). Her research is highly interdisciplinary and life sciences oriented. She specializes in the development and application of in-situ and ambient mass spectrometry methods to advance our understanding of complex biological samples. These range from healthy and diseases tissues to microbial specimen. A main technology used in her group is imaging mass spectrometry for spatial metabolomics, especially using Desorption Electrospray Ionisation.


Description The scope of this post is not project-bound. The post holder is especially expected to assist with the day-to-day organisation of a growing research group, lab management, assist in the acquisition of third-party funding such as scouting the funding landscape and assistance in grant writing, as well as hands-on and strategic assistance to junior researchers (BSc, MSc, PhD students) and assistance in preparing teaching material. In addition, the post holder will be responsible for establishing tissue imaging applications and performing tissue imaging studies in collaboration with junior researchers. The possibility exists, if in the candidate’s interest, to extend this post to full time (100% TVL E13) if suitable third-party funding can be established. The post offers high flexibility with regards to working arrangements.

Requirements  PhD in Chemistry, Biology, or other related life science topic  Excellent communication skills in English, capability to independent working  Preferred: Experience in grant writing, experience in scientific communication (publications, presentations) and teaching, Knowledge about mass spectrometry (imaging), cell metabolism,  Soft skills: analytical thinking, structured and organized work, high intrinsic motivation
