The City Planning and Design Directorate is leading the planning and design for the development of our City for a near doubling of our population over the next 20 years. This involves work on exciting projects across the Council area as we plan for growth in the right locations supported by the necessary infrastructure. We are working on projects in Camellia/Rosehill, Epping, Wentworth Point, Westmead and many other areas as well as our exciting and growing Parramatta CBD where we are based.

About the Role

Be part of a proactive and dedicated group of design managers, infrastructure planners and project interface managers, and have fun whilst getting the job done!

You will be working within a brand new Unit – Infrastructure Planning and Design, part of the City Planning and Development directorate. You have a great opportunity to shape both your role and how the team sets and achieves goals. The Unit covers CBD infrastructure design, project interfaces for Light Rail, Sydney Metro West and the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences, and infrastructure planning – which is where you come in.

The Greater Parramatta Area has a strong pipeline of major infrastructure investment over the next decade and beyond, and is continually experiencing rapid growth and change. Your strong contribution will be to assist with negotiating and following through voluntary planning agreements, providing development contributions advice, monitoring and amending development contributions plans, and cross-functional work with other professionals to develop a balanced, prioritised and strategic pipeline of infrastructure to support our growing residential and business community.

About You

You are degree qualified in town planning / equivalent degree or demonstrable experience in a similar role. A degree in town planning is not mandatory.

You have proven experience in the following:
Statutory or strategic town planning or allied professional experience and an understanding of the NSW planning system, with the ability to achieve strategic objectives by working within the development industry or public sector planning and development.

Competent understanding of land use plans and policies and the development application process.

Analytical, creative thinking and problem solving across a range of strategic projects and multi-disciplinary teams.

Sound understanding of development contributions and other rates and levies relevant to land use planning and community infrastructure provision.

To be successful in the role you have the proven ability to support cross-functional projects, policies or strategies on time, in a complex stakeholder environment.

You will have strong written and verbal communication for diverse audiences, including development of strategic documents. You will be comfortable conversing with development industry professionals and the community, with the ability to work with initiative and versatility on a wide range of matters, including solving a range of complex problems through collaboration.

This is a temporary full-time position until July 2024. We are offering an attractive salary from $92,062.27 to $101,359.31 pa + Super, depending on skills, knowledge and experience. A competitive salary will be negotiated commensurate with the skills, qualifications and experience of the preferred applicant.
