In this role, the Engineer’s performance is directly linked to customer satisfaction (internal and external customers). The Engineer will represent the company directly in front of customers supporting project engineering, sales and manufacturing / assembly at the facility. To provide engineering expertise to the Aftermarket (AM) business with a focus on supporting Customers, Sales, Tendering, Operations and Field Service activities.
Engineering Design Principles
Working knowledge and application of ASME III Pressure Vessel Design Rules and familiarity with ASME III rules on materials, fabrication, NDE, testing and quality requirements
Awareness in the application of other regulatory standards and design codes for pressure boundary components and other international engineering guidelines relative to the pumping industry, including material selection.
Knowledge of pump design fundamentals, operation and maintenance.
Knowledge of the interaction between bought-in components and pump equipment / system.
Practical knowledge and experience in mechanical assemblies and packaging of equipment.
To be aware of the importance of relevant time, cost, quality and planning factors involved in engineering projects
Work Scope Planned Activities:Typically: –
Design activities on a weekly to monthly time frame.
Service Work Requests on a daily to weekly time frame.
Operations support on an hourly to daily time frame.
Customers – attending technical meetings, leading field service trouble shooting.
Suppliers – technical queries.
Sales and Tendering – technical support of enquiries and tenders
Operations e.g. deciding on the solutions to Non Conformance Reports
Projects – support to projects e.g. technical decision making and attending project meetings
Specification – technical support to Specification Department e.g. material specifications
Service Centres – decision making on repair/overhaul processes
Field Service- technical support for Field Service activities
Warranty – technical support e.g. field services, report writing
OE Business Units – liaising with engineering staff in other Business units including shared design projects with Technology
Nuclear Critical & SHE
Compliance with Quality Assurance Manual – Nuclear and Departmental Procedures. Safety, Health & Environmental considerations of team members.
Responsibilities (including skills, experience etc)
[25%] Field Technical Services (e.g. Pump system assessments, material and design upgrades for all brands of rotating equipment, hydraulic re-design and up-rates, on-site supervision, asset management, vibration analysis, condition monitoring, re-engineering and upgrading of 3rd party pumps and parts and customer training)
[20%] Design work for upgrades & rerates.
[20%] Technical support via the SWR system (e.g. supporting Sales, Projects, Field Service, Specification, Service Centres, Customers).
[20%] Technical report writing.
[15%] Technical Support to Manufacturing Operations (Aberdeen, Glasgow and Global Service Centres)
[5%] Contribute to continual improvement process.
