An opportunity has arisen on the main reception desk at the Queen’s Medical Centre Campus for an experienced receptionist. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to help provide a professional, efficient and caring reception service for patients, visitors and staff at the QMC campus. You will need to have had previous experience of working on a busy reception desk within an NHS organisation and have excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to listen carefully to enquiries and accurately convey verbal information in a busy environment. You will be required to work as part of a team and have the ability to use your own initiative.

The reception desk is open Monday – Friday 8.00 am – 7.00 pm and Saturday and Sunday 1.00 pm – 5.00 pm (and bank holidays). Successful candidates will be required to work on a rota system to ensure receptionist cover is provided during these times.

To provide a comprehensive, caring and efficient receptionist service to patients, visitors and staff. To deal with queries in a sensitive and caring manner, ensuring patients’ confidentiality at all times. The post holder will carry out reception, clerical and any relevant non-clinical duties to support the wider Corporate Governance Team.

We are looking for a receptionist to join our small team based at the QMC main entrance to provide a comprehensive, caring and efficient receptionist service to patients, visitors and staff.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To display a helpful, friendly and courteous attitude to patients, visitors, staff and colleagues.

To welcome all visitors to the Trust and ensure that they are dealt with promptly.

To answer all telephone queries promptly and courteously, re-directing to other departments when necessary.

To deal with queries from visitors and patients in a sensitive and caring manner, ensuring confidentiality at all times. This may involve liaising with a number of different departments within the Trust and outside agencies.

To provide assistance to patients and visitors who may be distressed/bereaved and need local information and/or accommodation.

To obtain assistance for any medical emergencies which present themselves at the main reception desk.

To be aware of the need for confidentiality at all times including an understanding and compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation.

To direct and arrange escorts for visitors as necessary.

To be responsible for the receipt, storage, collection and distribution of items received on the main reception desk

To provide a comprehensive enquiry service to patients, visitors and staff by use of available computerised systems, taking into consideration point 7 above.

To undertake administrative and clerical duties to support the Corporate Governance team.

To assist patients, visitors and colleagues with any reasonable request.

To be a point of contact for volunteers supporting the Main Reception Desk.

To deal with all enquiries, both internal and external, efficiently and effectively.

To offer advice to visitors and patients about bus timetables, taxis and transport home.

To work unsupervised out-of-hours.

Any other duties that may reasonably be required.

Salary: The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.

The system will run a check against the key security features within your documentation. The system will provide us with an outcome of your check which will be stored securely on your personal file along with all other pre-employment check documentation.

Transfer of information: If I have previous NHS service – I consent to the transfer of my Electronic Staff Record (ESR) data between this and other NHS Trusts. I also consent to the Occupational Health Department confidentially accessing my occupational health records from my current or previous employer in order to check the status of my vaccinations, immunisations s and screening tests as relevant to the post. I understand this is an automated process and the information will only be used for these purposes prior to me taking up the position at NUH.

Disclosure and Barring Service: Your post maybe subject to a DBS check which incur a cost dependent on the level of check required (£41.90 for enhanced and £21.90 for standard). I agree to reimburse Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust the cost of a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check if it is required (by deduction from first month’s pay). Should I decide to withdraw from my job offer, I agree to reimburse Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust the cost of the DBS check undertaken by cheque or other agreed method.
