Job Description

The Remote Operations Geosteerer works closely with a cross-discipline group of geologists, drilling engineers, remote operations center analysts, and rigsite personnel to be the point of contact for remote geosteering supervision to keep the wellbore within the geological window while maximizing ROP and reducing dog-legs. Develop geological databases and be a crucial team member in developing geological software for autonomous drilling.



Serves as liaison with Operator and Company personnel.

Work a one week on and one week off rotational schedule, and be the primary point of contact for the Operator’s Planning Geologist and the Planning and Execution Drilling Engineer, as well as the Real-Time Command Center, rigsite personnel, and geosteering team.

Establish a database of geologic interpretations and geophysical data related to key basins.

Geosteer multiple wells utilizing auto-correlation algorithms and being able to identify key feature improvements to the process and user interface while maintaining within the defined geological window.

Ability to leverage seismic data, real-time LWD gamma-ray log, mudlogging data, and drilling dynamics to provide immediate feedback to influence directional guidance and wellbore placement with the Operator’s engineers, geologist, the rigsite, and the Real-time Center.

Ability to supervise geologic interpretations and algorithms for multiple wells simultaneously in unconventional horizontal drilling applications.

Perform geological well interpretations and geosteering guidance within the defined target geological and drilling window while maintaining the highest ROP, with minimal doglegs.

Provide operational geological well planning for determining the stratigraphic placement of the well, manipulating seismic data, and correlating gamma, and 3D geological modeling.

Prepares, reviews and participates in performance review meetings with the customer to show with data the value H&P is bringing to the operation or ways that we can improve.

Qualifications

BS required, MS preferred, in either Geology or Geophysics

Experience in the Permian, Delaware, Eagleford, Bakken, and DJ basins.

Must have good verbal and written communication skills, be well organized, have good people skills, and demonstrate good computer skills.

Proficiency in various geosteering, seismic, and MS Office software (SMT, Petra, ESRI’s ArcMap, SES, Excel, etc.).

Preferred experience in geosteering wells with high-temperature and high H2S wells onshore.

Preferred experience in developing operational geological plans and improving procedures.

Good oral, written and interpersonal skills

Solid documentation and organization skills.

Excellent organizational skills in order to manage multiple tasks

Excellent professional, interpersonal, and communication skills

Must be flexible and team-oriented

Offshore experience is a plus.

Understanding of H&P’s external customer base and their support demands, including technical specifications.
