The investigation of high-performance fully integrated terahertz circuits based on cutting-edge silicon technologies (SiGe HBT and nanoscale CMOS) is the core research focus of the IHCT. Since transistors are pushed to their limits, traditional RF-design techniques cannot be easily be applied at THz frequencies. At the IHCT, we explore innovative circuit architectures which cointegrate on-chip electromagnetics with active devices to build a solid foundation for practical THz microsystems.
You have completed a very good academic degree (Master or comparable) in the field of electrical engineering with a focus on micro- and nanoelectronics and the design of integrated circuits. Pracitcal experience in the design of integrated RF/mm-Wave integrated circuits in CMOS or SiGe-HBT technology and experience with EDA-design tools such as Cadence Virtuoso, ADS, HFSS, Sonnet etc. will be helpful for a sucessful application. Very good English language and communication skills are required.
As RF/THz Circuit Design Engineer, you will research and develop high-frequency integrated broadband circuits for novel applications in sensing and material characterization in the frame of the DFG-funded Reinhard Koselleck Projects. You will acquire experience in the entire silicon chip design flow, including conceptional development of new system architectures, circuit design, and characterization in the lab. You will be embedded in an experienced team and you will be required to cooperate closely with external academic partners. The scientific communication of research results in project meetings, international conferences, and journals as well as support in the acquisition of third-party funding is also expected.

This is a qualification position in the sense of the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (WissZeitVG), which can be filled to promote the following scientific or artistic qualification: Acquisition of professional experience in the implementation of the project “KOSELLECK”. The duration of the employment contract will be appropriate to the scientific qualification sought. This position is to be filled for the period December 1, 2021 through September 30, 2023. The position is to be filled with 100% of the collectively agreed working hours (part-time is possible, please indicate in your application if you would also or only be interested in part-time employment).
