Safety Officer – Temporary Full-time (203183)

We currently have Temporary Full-time opportunities for Safety Officers on the dedicated COVID units (C4 and D4/D4ICU) and in the Emergency Department at our Bayview campus (until approx. March 2021).

Salary: $25.00/hr

Summary of Duties

We are seeking interested health professionals/technologists to fulfill the role of Safety Officer on the dedicated COVID units (D4/D4ICU and C4 acute care) and Emergency Department for a period of 3 to 4 months.

The Safety Officer is an integral team member who assumes a leadership role for safety of staff, physicians, visitors, caregivers through implementation of key responsibilities related to infection prevention and control.

Individuals in this role bring with them knowledge and experience with infection control practices including donning and doffing of personal protective equipment (PPE), and awareness of aerosol generating medical procedures (AGMPs).

Training will additionally be provided for the role.

Observe donning and doffing PPE practices with each staff member early in the shift to identify knowledge gaps, opportunities for improvement and potential/actual breeches in safety/best practice

Verify safe donning and doffing of appropriate PPE for staff, physicians, visitors, volunteers and caregivers including staff or consultants coming in from other patient care areas/departments

Identify any breeches of removal/replacement of PPE with related individual(s)

Support provision of equipment and supplies for staff inside patients’ room in order to assist with clustering care

Assist with reprocessing activities

Prioritize donning and doffing of staff when a patient is on droplet and contact precautions for COVID-19 (suspected or confirmed) or when a planned AGMP is performed

Act as a Safety Leader in the event of a Code Blue or emergent AGMP is performed, remain dedicated to this function until completed and all staff have doffed PPE or patient has been transferred to

Qualifications/Skills

Completion, or in progress, of College Diploma or Undergraduate Degree in a Health Care or related field
