Job Description


The Senior Mechanical Engineer is a key member of the New Product Development (NPD) and Engineered to Order (ETO) engineering teams, working on complex wafer processing equipment involving atomic layer deposition (ALD), ion beam etch and deposition, as well as molecular beam epitaxy (MBE), wet wafer processing, chemical and physical vapor deposition technologies. These systems range from R&D to production scale and are critical in the manufacture of a wide range of high-tech devices. This role involves overall system design, motion and robotics, vacuum vessel design, vacuum wafer transfer, as well as many other engineering and design areas. Tasks include managing product design, leading design reviews, creating detailed component drawings, supporting manufacturing and assembly, and perform validation testing of prototype.


Team member for new product development projects of vacuum process equipment, with the responsibility for all mechanical design aspects and manufacturing of the equipment, subassemblies and components

Product line owner for at least one ALD product line, overseeing long term roadmap for the product with the responsibility for all mechanical design aspects and manufacturing of the equipment, subassemblies and components

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a high level of technological complexity. Provide mechanical engineering expertise, while focusing on design quality, reliability, effective cost, and ease of manufacturing

Perform analytical studies and theoretical calculations, requiring a variety of engineering knowledge, including analysis of vacuum vessels, heat transfer, material structural analysis, static and dynamic, fluids, motion mechanisms

Define mechanical design specifications based on customer requirements and company capabilities

Ensure that manufacturing processes are compliant with standard design practices and safety codes; ensure appropriate tests are in place in order to produce reliable products in a repeatable manner

Prepare presentations and present design concepts, ideas, and test results to internal and external customers

Provide expertise in mechanical engineering while participating in design reviews

Support procurement efforts in correlation with overall project deadlines

Provide “hands on” assistance and support to the manufacturing team

Develop test plans and design of experiments and is directly involved in prototype development and testing

Create and release engineering documentation through the ECO process

Support Program Management with project flow through the PLC Phase gates


BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 8 years or an MS degree with 5 years of experience designing or manufacturing capital equipment, vacuum systems, subassemblies, or components. Experience with SolidWorks is required as is experience with finite element analysis, both structural and thermal.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Experience with AutoCAD is required.

Experience with SAP, or similar PLM system, is required

Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment as part of a multi-disciplinary team, able to take initiative, own full projects, and/or lead a small project team

General knowledge of electrical and software engineering disciplines
