About the Role

Here at Babcock International we are looking for a Senior Nuclear Engineer to join us at HMNB Devonport, one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe. We are a key strategic partner to our customers, the MOD and the Royal Navy. We ensure that the UK Royal Navy goes to sea safely by supporting them in Devonport Dockyard and around the world, delivering complex ship and submarine sustainment programmes. We apply our core strengths of technology and expertise to sustain critical and complex assets to help maintain national security.

As a Senior Nuclear Engineer, you will be part The Nuclear Engineering Branch (NEB), which support submarine production and commissioning during work on Fleet Time Submarines to enable nuclear implicated work to be conducted safely. This involves the provision of nuclear procedures, nuclear technical instructions and nuclear logics. This is all authorised and approved by the Procedure Authorisation Group (PAG).

The role involves ensuring that the necessary documentation for the conduct of nuclear repairs and maintenance is produced in accordance with relevant project plans as directed. The documentation must also meet the quality and safety case requirements, as defined in the Administration Control Document (ACD) for a specific project. Additionally, all documentation must ensure that the Design Intent for the NSRP is maintained and along with the through life availability of the NSRP.

What do I need to do the role?

To be successful in role, you will need to have an understanding of the following:

Nuclear Systems and their interdependencies

The requirement for Safety Cases and their compliance

Health and Safety policies

Quality Assurance principles

You will be capable of methodical meticulous work, have effective written and oral communication skills and have basic IT skills (e.g. Word, Excel, and Outlook).


ONC (or equivalent) in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, HNC is preferred.

Mechanical or Electrical Apprenticeship and significant experience in a technical discipline.

Finally, you will also need to be willing to complete a number of nuclear and safety courses, some of which may require you to travel

The role will require some on-call support and overtime, for which you will be paid an additional allowance.

You will need to have or be eligible to get UK National Security Vetting Clearance at Security Check (SC) level.
