Job Description

The Senior IT Administrator role is a member of the Technology Operations team within the Information Technology organization. The overall responsibility of this role is to ensure the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the internal information systems that support core organizational functions. Primarily a Microsoft Windows server environment, the team is quickly incorporating the use of Linux and Cloud infrastructure. A key responsibility is the technical design, configuration, and implementation of local and wide area network solutions between multiple platforms. The Senior IT Administrator possesses extensive knowledge of multi-protocol systems and implementation experience with multi-vendor network systems, and will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve issues in order to maximize the benefit of IT systems investments. This individual will also mentor and provide guidance to the other TechOps team members. In addition to a B.Sc. degree, incumbents usually have special certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, MCSE, RHCE, or equivalent in addition to 10 years of relevant experience.

Essential Job Functions:
Design, install, configure and maintain a mixture of bare metal, hypervisor, and cloud servers

  • Design, install, configure and maintain WAN, LAN, and VPN networks
  • Oversee system performance and troubleshoot and resolve issues
  • Perform system upgrades and patching
  • Implement and enforce security tools to protect systems, and data (at rest, ingress and egress)
  • Maintain documentation for network topology, internal processes and procedures
  • Monitor and maintain network devices such as switches, routers, file servers, VPN gateways and intrusion detection systems
  • Monitor and maintain virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) environment
  • Support and configure Active Directory users and computers for security access
  • Support and configure geographical load balancer to provide customer access to critical websites and web applications
  • RSA 2-factor authentication configuration
  • Manage SSL certificates for all required infrastructure
  • Coordinate with IT leadership on infrastructure strategy

Non- Essential Job Functions :

  • Interfaces with SQL DBA and VoIP Engineer as needed to provide support and guidance
  • Interfaces with third-party contractors and consultants
  • Scripting knowledge and experience for automation of repeatable processes
  • Mentors TechOps and Technology Support staff
  • Provide purchase recommendations on required infrastructure needs (hardware and software)
  • Maintain excellent relationships with Development and Operations organizations

Qualifications:
The Senior IT Administrator will have a B.S. degree and 10 years related experience, associate degree and 12 years related experience, or 15 years related experience.

  • Proven experience in overseeing the design, configuration, and implementation of software/hardware systems, applications, and related products
  • Proven experience with systems planning, security principles, and general software management best practices
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws
  • Good project and time-management skills
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to conduct research into technical issues and the evaluation of products as required
  • Ability to communicate ideas in both technical and non-technical language
  • Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail

Preferred Skills

  • Network certifications such as Cisco CCIE, CCNP or CompTIA Network+ are a plus
  • System administration certifications such as MCSE, RHCE or CompTIA Server+ are a plus
  • Support connectivity of all users both local and remote
  • Experience managing Linux server environments
  • Knowledge of virtualized systems (VMware) and containerized applications (Docker, Cloud Foundry)
  • Familiarity with Cloud Service Providers such as Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure, or Oracle Cloud
