GALT is currently seeking a Sr. Mechanical Engineer to drive instrument and consumable research and development efforts on our platform. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in leading a team of engineers and scientists in designing, developing and commercializing systems in the Life Sciences tool space. The position is a key member of the GALT team, and will work seamlessly with internal and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have great leadership and interpersonal skills and enjoy creatively solving problems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Lead the company’s mechanical engineering development, focused on the design, fabrication and integration of concepts and strategies to support microbial cultivation workflows and on-array microbial screening.
Execute on delivering to the project roadmap on time and within budget
Work with and develop and mentor a team of engineers in executing research and product development activities
Ideate, design and oversee prototyping of concepts supporting product development.
Hands-on evaluation and troubleshooting of system level issues.
Perform structured studies to quantitate and improve product performance
Generate data to support customer adoption and use of GALT’s platform
Support external collaborations and early customers
Work with outside vendors/partners to accelerate product development
Support the manufacturing team with new product introduction
Effectively communicate development status, issues, results and insights
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Degree in mechanical engineering or related field. 10+ years of experience in industry.
Proven track record in taking multiple products from feasibility to commercial launch using appropriate development checkpoints and change control strategies
Proven track record in successfully designing, prototyping and integrating complex workflows involving mechanical design, software control, microfluidic consumable development and assay performance.
Demonstrated ability to develop and lead small engineering groups to produce innovative and robust products
Deep experience designing/ developing and troubleshooting electromechanical/optical systems and microfluidic consumables.
Experience working with and managing external development partners
