The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for understanding CRH Americas Materials high level technology and business strategies and then architecting short- and long-term solutions to meet the needs of the business with a focus on security and continuity of operations. In addition to the skills required by a typical systems administrator in an in-house or hosted environment, and knowledge of skills required to provision, manage, monitor, and decommission cloud services, the IT/Cloud Engineer role requires additional knowledge and experience around technologies and techniques for automating provision and management of infrastructure in a distributed environment.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
Architecting and deploying disaster recovery, backup and management solutions.
Architecting and deploying public, cloud-based solutions such as PaaS, IaaS and internally developed applications that may leverage technologies such as containers.
Architecting and deploying Hyper-Converge solutions as well as storage management (traditional, converged, hyper-converged).
Architecting, deploying and managing VMWare ESX environments.
Evaluate infrastructure and cloud decisions in the context of both high-level strategy and tactical solutions.
Direct multiple complex projects involving internal and external partners and vendors.
Ensure security is integrated into all architecture solutions.
Collaborate as part of larger delivery teams which may include project managers, business analysts, architects, developers and change management professionals.
Understanding of cloud security best practices.
Solid working knowledge of multi-tier architectures such as load balancers, caching, web servers, application servers, databases and networking.
Active Directory, domain architecture and single sign on services such as Okta.
Experience with templates and other configurable items to enable automation.
Familiarity with deployment techniques (and tools) in a distributed environment.
Basic understanding of relational and non-relational databases.
Infrastructure as Code: design and security, configuration management, integration, deployment, performance monitoring and tuning, automation of infrastructure.
Strong scripting skillset.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
University degree in computer science or software engineering and/or 10 or more years of equivalent work experience.
Microsoft, SA, ITIL, Cisco – Certifications preferred, not required
Ability to travel up to 10% as required by business needs
Ability to exercise independent judgment and act on it.
