Your Role and Responsibilities

Solution and subject matter expert responsible for driving the client technical agenda, account architecture, and technical sales support of specialty products. Accountable for driving client satisfaction such that clients become promoters of the IBM platform. Maintains strong platform and offering knowledge and articulates the value proposition/ROI, competitive landscape, and relevant use cases to drive sales. Applies technical and sales knowledge to create and deliver technical proof points to assist with deal closure.

Client Technical Specialists in this role are client/partner-facing, territory-oriented technical sales resources for Direct & BP sales and support requirements to drive revenue attainment either directly or through local partners. Communicates IBM’s technical value proposition for their brand offerings and promotes specific brand technical solutions to address market opportunities to clients and partners.

Their primary assignment is to provide proactive technical sales support engagement (joint planning and client calls) in complex and/or HRO business partner transactions with a secondary role in business partner technical enablement at distributor / reseller for Storage systems.

Specifically they will focus on :

  • Providing subject matter expertise in designated platform and offerings for both Storage Hardware and Software
  • Engaging in building technical strategy plans by customer to execute and grow pipeline for both HW and SW.
  • Assist with new product introduction
  • Teaming with Ecosystem on territory development activities when technical skills are required
  • Being assigned to brand Specialty partners to provide exclusive technical advocacy
  • Providing technical expertise in territory deployment of platform and solutions plays



They work as trusted technical advisers in sales support engagements, educating, designing and enabling win/win uses of IBM technology within their Business Partner’s solutions and for direct opportunities. They evaluate technical capabilities and develop plans to address skills gaps, help distributors develop downstream BP skills, accelerate learning of newly recruited BPs, identify and resolve pervasive skills and program issues and apply knowledge of technical programs, tools and initiatives. They provide client enablement on IBM solutions to ensure that technical members at end users are promoters of IBM technology.

Guide other professionals. Adapt communications and approaches to conclude negotiations with various partners, resulting in common agreements.

Leads multi-functional teams, or conducts special projects, or manages department(s) (national or international). Has vision of functional or unit mission. Influences people and organizations, including executive management, when issues are complex/difficult and require considerable diplomacy. Considerable latitude in responsibilities to define and decide on tools, processes, priorities and resources following general business unit directives. Recognized as an expert in their field. Often no precedent exists.

Accountable for projects or programs involving multi- functional, country-wide or regional teams. Responsible for overall functional program success. Activities are subject to business measurements, impact customer satisfaction, and impact functional, business unit, or country costs or expenses.
