Summary


You will serve as a Supervisory Recreation Specialist in the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department – Carney Park of NAVSUPPACT NAPLES.

Responsibilities

You will coordinate programs, activities, and special events with managers of other Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) activities (e.g., bowling center, sports, youth center, food and beverage).

You will oversee program inquiries, concerns, and complaints for the Recreation and Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) program.

You will conduct inventories, cost controls, and related reports for financial planning.

You will evaluate recreational facilities to identify the need for repairs, maintenance, and upgrades.

You will implement activities to meet community interest and needs.

You will manage employees (e.g., work schedules, approve leave) to ensure maximum productivity and cost effectiveness.

This position may require travel to places within and outside the contiguous United States which could include remote or isolated sites. You may be required to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

If eligible for permanent change of station, the appointee will be required to sign a transportation agreement to establish a Government time in service requirement of 12 months.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport.

Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.

Employee is required to do considerable walking and drive an automobile during the day-to-day supervision of the program. Administrative work is done in an office setting and no special physical requirements are necessary.

The duties and responsibilities of the incumbent requires both indoor and outdoor work. Everyday risks and discomforts are involved in day-to-day operations.

Managerial and administrative work is performed in an adequately lighted, heated and ventilated office area.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-7 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Plan and coordinate recreational program activities and events that will stimulate and sustain the interest of participants; 2) Develop and monitor the execution of an annual operating budget to ensure activities and programs meet organizational goals and objectives; 3) Provide guidance on facility and grounds maintenance, safety regulations, and specialized equipment; and 4) Oversee purchasing and inventory control to ensure items meet program guidelines. Successfully completed a master’s or equivalent graduate degree with a major study in general recreation, or one of the appropriate fields of recreation such as outdoor recreation; recreation and parks leadership; wild land recreation management; natural resources recreation; youth recreation; public, urban, or community recreation; special populations recreation (e.g., senior citizens, institutional, etc.); or physical education.

OR

Successfully completed two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master’s degree with a major study in general recreation, or one of the appropriate fields of recreation such as outdoor recreation; recreation and parks leadership; wild land recreation management; natural resources recreation; youth recreation; public, urban, or community recreation; special populations recreation (e.g., senior citizens, institutional, etc.); or physical education.

Priority consideration will be given to military spouse preference and family member preference eligible residing in the commute area of the duty location for this position. Commute area is defined as the geographic area surrounding the duty location in which people can reasonably be expected to travel back and forth daily.
