Idaho Power — headquartered in vibrant Boise, Idaho — is looking for a System Administrator I or II to join our technology team. What does a System Administrator I or II do for us? Under minimal supervision System Administrators analyze, install, configure, upgrade, document, monitor and maintain software and hardware in support of business processing requirements. Supported systems may include operating systems, business applications, server hardware, security tools, monitoring tools, Web servers, Application servers, Integration servers, and other departmental or enterprise applications or systems. They will also perform systems administration functions for assigned applications to ensure supported systems are reliable, efficiently maintained and available in order to support customer productivity. System Administrators also provide technical support for problems not resolved by the IT Operations Center or IT Service Desk.

Experience & Knowledge of:
Windows Server 2012, 2012 R2, 2016, 2019 – administration, configuration, and deployment

Internet Information Services (IIS) and Web Application Deployment, ApacheTomcat, Web APIs

Web Security Principles: SSL, TLS, Integrated Security, Certificates, etc.

Enterprise automation practices and scripting languages such as PowerShell, Python, etc.

Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS

Containerization Platforms: Docker, Kubernetes, AWS Fargate, etc.

Cloud computing service models: SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS

Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, or Google Cloud

DevOps Methodology & Tools: Ansible, Chef, Puppet, Git, Azure DevOps, etc.

Skills in:

Strong interpersonal skills

Verbal and written communication, including effective listening and follow-up

Planning and organizing

Documenting technical procedures

Project management, leadership, mentoring, and training skills

Ability to:
Work proactively in a team environment with minimum supervision

System Admin I

Associate’s degree in related field or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience

2+ years relevant IT experience

System Admin II

Bachelor’s Degree in CIS (computer information systems) or equivalent field, OR a combination of relevant education and experience

5+ years of professional IT experience

Preferred Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science


This position requires working at a desk/computer for extended periods of time. It requires the use of office equipment, fine motor skills including typing on the computer, dialing phones, filing paper, and working in close proximity to other people. There may be occasional lifts of no more than 10 lbs. The above is a summary of the primary essential functions of the position. System Admin I

Works with regular guidance in own area of knowledge. Solves a range of straightforward problems, analyzes possible solutions and assesses each using standard procedures.

System Admin II

This position will have a more in-depth technical knowledge in own discipline. The position will have more experience with project management skills and be proficient with time management being able to manage multiple projects at once. The position should have a college degree or equivalent combination of formal education and experience.
