SYMVIONICS has an opening for a SYSTEMS ENGINEER at

NAS Patuxent River, MD

Active DoD Secret Clearance is required.

Summary

Minimum of five years Systems Engineering experience. Develops “use case” design notations, software and hardware architecture design and provides hardware/software design requirements on aircraft and air traffic control modeling and simulation. This position provides support to an Integrated Product Team to assist with functional decomposition of software mission requirements for the Control Station to smaller, independent, yet interconnected components. The objective is to work in parallel, but independently with multiple software development teams toward final system integration. Supporting Engineers would support the flowdown and capture the requirements within the system level documents.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Thorough knowledge of UML methodology with emphasis in “use case” development

Familiarity with SysML to support modeling of the system and ability to support the requirements decomposition

Perform other System Engineering functions:
Provide guidance and instruction of “use case” implementation in regards to identify top level (architectural) design requirements

Review existing “use case” design notations and provide commentary and corrective instruction if necessary

Perform technical studies, hardware/software architecture design, troubleshooting, technical evaluations, drawing updates, documentation support, reviews, and system performance of trainer modifications

Provide technical recommendations on issues pertaining to trainer procurement, lab facilities, development tools, and trainer system upgrades

Analyzes COTS integration and impacts on trainer performance

Oversees all designs, development, testing, and fielding of hardware modifications.

Develops and implements hardware life cycle support

Support program status meetings as required and identify areas for improvement based on staff input and management observations

Provides input into the scheduled requirements so that all event and time driven tasks are performed on time. If a predetermined schedule cannot be met, action will be taken prior to the due date to adjust the task completion date

Determine additional design notations, procedures, artifacts necessary for presentation at Design Reviews

Ability to teach and implement “use case” methodology into IBM Rational Software Modeler

Support program status meetings as required and identify areas for improvement based on staff input and management observations

May be required to perform uncompensated work outside normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and/or Experience and Education

Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or equivalent technical field such as Computer Scence; a Masters Degree is not required relevant commensurate experience will suffice, but a minimum of five years Systems Engineer experience required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Experience and Knowledge of the Following:
Recent experience using IBM Rational Software Modeler or similar tools

Familiar with C++ and object oriented design concepts

Experience with hardware and software design concepts

Expert in Microsoft Project, intermediate Microsoft Office Suite

Experience in a variety of software, hardware, and systems development tools as well as integration and test tools

Principles, practices and procedures of record keeping

Modern office procedures and methods

Occupational hazards and standard safety practices

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Ability to read, interpret and develop quality control documents from the statement of work

Ability to write reports and correspondence including quality metrics

Interpersonal/human relations skills

Ability to:

  • Organize, plan and coordinate effectively
  • Maintain accurate records
  • Operate computer equipment and software
  • Work independently in the absence of supervision

Work Environment

Regular exposure to an office environment with extended periods of time spent sitting at a desk using a computer.
