Trucking Supervisor Job at Maersk – in Cape Town, Western Cape
APMT IS Cape Town trucking team.
The Transport Supervisor is responsible to assist and guide Truck Controllers and Owner Drivers with deliveries and collections.
The transportation service is provided by Owner Drivers who supply approximately 240 mechanical horses to the company, who in-turn have over 440 chassis which are utilized by the Owner Drivers to supply a high standard trucking service.
The scope of the position is limited to Cape Town, South Africa

Manage staff engagement
Operations – Local Cartage Management
Co-ordinate a smooth delivery operation by supporting Transport Controllers where needed
Receive and follow-up all requests/ complaints from clients.
Arrange training where needed to ensure the availability of trained drivers for special cargo, hazardous goods, and valuable goods.
Maintain good relations with suppliers and clients / law enforcement agencies (SAP and Traffic).
Check on road worthiness and general condition of trucks and ensure that all kept up to relevant standards
Attend accidents and ensure that necessary reporting is completed
Ensure that all containers are tracked, including missing or possible stolen containers to ensure proper reporting and that containers are returned to nominated depots.
Supply quotations promptly and correctly to clients on request.
Ensure that all documents are processed timeously.
Ensure that all clients are notified of all miscellaneous charges and invoices are raised accordingly.
Ensure that all pre-loads are loaded and parked in an orderly manner at the allocated place.
To ensure that daily customer overview report is updated / progress logs updated.
Road haul Management
To arrange any long distance road haul request
Monitor loading of long distance vehicles.
Advise the customers of arrival times or of any delays experienced at the time.
Ensure that customers are advised of all charges and invoiced accordingly.
Respond and attend to any/all queries, enquiries or complaints telephonically, verbally and by correspondence as and when necessary.
Ensure that capturing is done correctly.
Ensure that all invoice queries receive prompt attention.
Ensure that records and filing are kept up to date and invoice queries receive prompt attention.
Owner driver management
Ensure drivers to perform according to company standards.
Rectify poor performance by coaching, or training and instituting disciplinary steps when necessary in terms of fair labour practices.
Ensure all new drivers and new vehicles are registered as required.
The effective management of all trailers.
Ensure that correct weight and size of container detail is given to the transporter to ensure that a correct rate is negotiated.
Ensure that the system is updated accurately with all rates and costs.
Ensure accurate quotations are received and supplied to customers and that invoices are completed according to quotations.
To ensure that diesel forms are received daily and are balanced and reconciled with the orders received.
Monitor and order diesel supply on a daily basis.
Assisting with local deliveries
Assist with local cartage when required
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
National Senior Certificate (Matric / Grade 12)
Knowledge of Transport, Logistics and Container Terminal operations
Possess effective reporting and problem solving skills
High energy levels combined with a passion for trucking and people
Good systems knowledge and experience
Code 08 licence
Accuracy and an attention to detail
Good verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work in a pressurized environment with tight deadlines
Ability to interact at all levels internally and externally
